The lame duck can really duck

December 14th 2008 22:37
Okay, I criticized Bush in my previous post. However, I have to give him props for today's incident in Iraq. During a press conference, an Iraqi reporter threw his shoes at Dubya. The president nimbly evaded both shoes with ease. He was also good-natured about the episode. He didn't make a big deal out of what happened and he even joked about it.

So while he may be a lame duck president, George Bush's ability to "duck" is anything but lame.

He saved them from Saddam's hell, helped them defend themselves, helped them to have their own constitution and their own government and continues to support their duly elected president. Any jerk in Iraq that has the nerve to throw shoes at President Bush deserves to step in something really nasty with the unshod foot.

I don't get it, PopCon, acting that way to someone they owe? What's wrong with people like that...?

Had the man thrown a shoe at Saddam Hussein, he would've been summarily executed in the old Iraq. Then again, though, I can certainly understand the anger of someone who has needlessly lost a loved one as a result of US involvement in Iraq. I don't know if that was the case with this guy, but I can understand the sentiment.

Now we know why he has always spoken with a bobbing head.... he was in training for the big duck!

Needlessly lost a loved one because of US involvement, PopCon? He has a free country because of US involvement. He doesn't have to worry about his wife and daughters being kidnapped and sent to rape rooms before being executed. He has the same terrorists to fear that have always been there, but they aren't attacking as often as they once were.

For all we know, SL, his wife and daughter may have been blown up by an errant US bomb. If we in the US lived under a tyrant and a foreign (albeit well-intentioned) army came here and blew up my family by mistake, I'd be furious myself. Surely you will acknowledge the notion of "collateral damage". Our own government does. It happens. It's unfortunate, but it happens. When it does, the families that are left behind get angry. I'm sure it's hard for them to be as thankful for Saddam being gone when an innocent loved one gets killed. As a whole, the country will surely be better off without Saddam in the long run. However, some individual families suffer great losses.

And, of course, I'm not talking about the terrorists. They deserve what they get. I'm talking about folks who just happen to live there and get caught in the middle.

It's a war, PopCon and terrible things happen in war. Collateral damage is a tragic reality of all wars. The man should have been arrested by the Secret Service, but Pres. Bush let it slide as a monument to the new freedom the Iraqi's now have. I'm not sure I would have been that nice about it... would you?

"The man should have been arrested by the Secret Service."

I heard he was being questioned today, but I don't know by whom. I'd be shocked if the Secret Service or CIA isn't part of that, however.

I don't know if I would've been that nice about it, but I would've understood. It was just a shoe (or two), after all. That's an insult in the Arab world, but in our world it's just...a shoe. I was worried that Bush would be shot or bombed while he was over there. A couple of shoes is no big deal. Nevertheless, Bush deserves credit for reacting appropriately.

Yes, he does deserve credit, PopCon, but the MSM is acting like the shoe thrower is some kind of a hero. I'd like to throw some shoes at them... Getting hit in the face with a flying shoe wouldn't feel good!

You know how anti-MSM I am, but I don't see that they are making the thrower into a hero. They are mostly just reporting the news and enjoying the quirkiness of it. Even the article I linked to was fairly favorable towards Bush. Heck, I heard Chrissy Matthews say yesterday that Americans liked that they have a nimble president who stared down his attacker. Now the press in the Arab world surely is making the guy into a hero, but I don't really see that in the MSM -- for the most part.

I guess the thrower is in custody and looking at some serious time for assault. So I heard. Bet if someone had thrown a paper napkin at Barry Soetero they be in cuffs on the spot! I'm sure the thrower is the latest Muslim hero and will be very surprised if the MSM doesn't jump on the bandwagon with them. It's their usual M.O.
