The GOP in 2010
June 15th 2009 06:31
It's early, but I get the feeling that the GOP will make significant gains in the 2010 elections. From what I understand, that's not unusual after the election of a Democratic president. The GOP did very well in 1994 after Bill Clinton's victory in 1992. I'm guessing it has something to do with the rejection of one-party rule. We like to complain about divided government, but it's often a case of, "Be careful what you ask for." When one party dominates, they usually overreach in a way that scares the electorate. I think that's happening now with the Democrats. We'll have to see how the next year plays out (especially with regard to the economy), but I'd be greatly surprised if the GOP doesn't do a lot better in 2010 than they did in 2006 and 2008.
Then again, it's almost impossible for them to do worse.
