Thank you, Bernie Sanders

August 19th 2011 21:21
Good grief, I never thought I'd agree with anything that Bernie Sanders, an avowed Socialist, does. He and I have polar opposite views on almost everything under the sun. If he told me the sky was blue, I'd have to double-check his sources. However, I GREATLY APPLAUD this:

Oil trading data that exposed the extensive positions speculators held in the run-up to record high prices in 2008 were intentionally leaked by a U.S. senator, sparking broader concern about industry confidentiality as Congress moves on Wall Street reform.

Senator Bernie Sanders, a staunch critic of oil speculators, leaked the information to a major newspaper in a move that has unsettled both regulators and Wall Street alike.

Why was this data not released to begin with? At a time when the US economy was already teetering on the edge, oil prices inexplicably went up to $147/barrel. It pushed us right into a hard-boiled recession. The whole country was outraged and we all knew something was rotten in Denmark (figuratively speaking, not literally - I'm sure Denmark is a fine country). The actions of greedy, money-grubbing speculators should be exposed. We are wholly dependent on oil and we shouldn't be punished just so the paper-shufflers on Wall Street can fill their wheelbarrows with cash. In fact, why are non-oil-consumers or non-brokers even allowed to purchase oil? Limit its purchase to those who actually use or distribute oil (airlines, gas stations, etc.). Is that too much to ask? And shame on any politician from either side of the aisle who enables the greedy oil speculators on Wall Street to get rich at our expense.

So...I'll probably never say this again, but, "Thank you, Bernie Sanders."

I suspect there is collusion and crookedness in many of the price increases we are dealing with, PopCon. When a price goes through the roof, somebody profits and everyone else pays. The speculators are everywhere, their enablers are usually in Washington DC.

Well, this particular commodity can make or break our economy. It should be treated differently, free market or not. It's asinine to leave all us gas-users (i.e., everyone) to suffer at the whims of Wall Street thiefs and complicit politicians.

It could almost be called treason, PopCon. It might, if we had an honest Attorney General, anyway.

They're all complicit, SL. It took the socialist to stand up for the average person. That's disappointing. The GOP had better stop sucking up to Wall Street and start stepping up for the average voter. This is the kind of nonsense that drives someone to the Tea Party.

That's how I got there, PopCon. When the GOP candidate was so much like the liberal (McCain), I voted for him while holding my nose. Maybe the TEA party can inspire a better choice this time.

I like Cain the most, but he's just not going to win. I like Perry, but I worry he can't win. I like Bachman's positions, but she'll be sidelined by the media. I'm not a big Mitt fan, but he might be the best choice. We just HAVE to get someone who can beat Obama. Our country won't survive another four years of Nobama.

That's the truth. Compliments of the media, each of the good candidates has limited chances of winning. Cain is my favorite, too. Now the liberal loons are saying he must be getting paid because no black man could be a Republican. I guess they are really as dumb as they act. Black conservatives aren't all that rare, just not brainwashed.

I know a lot of people who don't know history and believe all the democrat lies. Most of them are basically good folks who never bothered to study the party platforms or learn the history of American politics. Once they start learning, though, most of them are horrified and embarrassed. If people, especially blacks would do a little research, they'd see things in a whole 'nother light.
