Thank you, Bernie Sanders
August 19th 2011 21:21
Good grief, I never thought I'd agree with anything that Bernie Sanders, an avowed Socialist, does. He and I have polar opposite views on almost everything under the sun. If he told me the sky was blue, I'd have to double-check his sources. However, I GREATLY APPLAUD this:
Why was this data not released to begin with? At a time when the US economy was already teetering on the edge, oil prices inexplicably went up to $147/barrel. It pushed us right into a hard-boiled recession. The whole country was outraged and we all knew something was rotten in Denmark (figuratively speaking, not literally - I'm sure Denmark is a fine country). The actions of greedy, money-grubbing speculators should be exposed. We are wholly dependent on oil and we shouldn't be punished just so the paper-shufflers on Wall Street can fill their wheelbarrows with cash. In fact, why are non-oil-consumers or non-brokers even allowed to purchase oil? Limit its purchase to those who actually use or distribute oil (airlines, gas stations, etc.). Is that too much to ask? And shame on any politician from either side of the aisle who enables the greedy oil speculators on Wall Street to get rich at our expense.
So...I'll probably never say this again, but, "Thank you, Bernie Sanders."
Oil trading data that exposed the extensive positions speculators held in the run-up to record high prices in 2008 were intentionally leaked by a U.S. senator, sparking broader concern about industry confidentiality as Congress moves on Wall Street reform.
Senator Bernie Sanders, a staunch critic of oil speculators, leaked the information to a major newspaper in a move that has unsettled both regulators and Wall Street alike.

The Political Brief
I know a lot of people who don't know history and believe all the democrat lies. Most of them are basically good folks who never bothered to study the party platforms or learn the history of American politics. Once they start learning, though, most of them are horrified and embarrassed. If people, especially blacks would do a little research, they'd see things in a whole 'nother light.
