Ted Stevens Is Worried
July 10th 2007 23:56
Ted Stevens (R-AK) has some concerns:
If you are a regular reader of this blog, you may recall that I am not a fan of Senator Stevens. His wasteful spending and pork-o-philia is bad for America and a blight on the state of Alaska. He represents the out-of-touch largesse that is endemic to many of our elected representatives. And with him being 83 years old, I don't see much of a chance that he will ever see the error of his ways and become a responsive and responsible fiscal conservative. No, he is now and will continue to be the poster boy for what has gone wrong with the Republican Party in the last few years.
Senator Stevens could do the country a favor and decide not to run for re-election. Will he do the right thing and opt not to run? I seriously doubt it. If he is physically able, I have no doubt that he will run. Will he win? Probably. He has been in the Senate since 1968, so Alaska appears to love him.
It's time (WAY past time, actually) to purge the Senate of the members of the country-club, dinosaur wing that lumbers through its hallowed halls. Both parties have them and they are a drag on the country. So this message is to the voters in Alaska. Please, Alaska, do the right thing. It's time to move ahead. I know you love the Tedosaurus, but we'll never be able to move forward as a country as long as folks like him are clogging up our political arteries. Reward him by giving him the forced retirement he so richly deserves. Make sure he his worries are well-founded. Be a peach and vote "NO" on Ted.
Ted Stevens, the longest-serving Republican senator and once the chief power broker for dispensing federal dollars, says he's worried that a corruption investigation "could cause me some trouble" in running for re-election next year.
The 83-year-old Alaska Republican has drawn Justice Department scrutiny over a renovation project in 2000 that more than doubled the size of his home in a resort town surrounded by glaciers.
