Schmuck alert: Michelle Obama
August 24th 2011 19:07
Schmuckess? Schmuckette? Is "schmuck" a gender-neutral term? Well, whatever.
Michelle Obama, our provincial first lady, has expensive tastes -- at least she does when the king's subjects (we, the lowly citizens) are footing the bill:
Does the first lady burning green (i.e., taxpayer dollars) make you see red? That's the effect it has on me. It's bad enough that Obama jets off to lavish, blue-blood vacation spots to fiddle his fiddle while the US burns. However, it's doubly insulting when his privileged wife is using tax dollars to fund her over-the-top desire to live like a queen. I was no fan of Bill Clinton, but at least he had the decency to downgrade his vacation to a camping trip in the middle of tough economic times. Obama just doesn't care, though. He's going to live like a rock star while he can.
Should Obama and his oh-so-precious, better-than-you wife get a vacation? Absolutely. The average American worker gets two weeks a year. That should be plenty for the president (whether Dem or GOP). Heck, give him three weeks a year since he does, at times, have to work on weekends. However, he should be limited in where he can go when the taxpayers are funding it. Clinton's camping trip was a good idea. How about a trip to a national park? That seems like a wise choice. But Martha's Vineyard? No way. Not when the country is a bazillion dollars in debt and the taxpayers are footing the bill.
If King and Queen Obama don't quickly learn that lesson, their subjects will soon depose them.

The Obamas' summer break in Martha's Vineyard has already been branded a PR disaster after the couple arrived four hours apart on separate government jets.
But according to new reports, this is the least of their extravagances.
White House sources today claimed that the First Lady has spent $10million of U.S. taxpayers' money on vacations alone in the past year.
Branding her 'disgusting' and 'a vacation junkie', they say the 47-year-old mother-of-two has been indulging in five-star hotels, where she splashes out on expensive massages and alcohol.
