Obama supports drilling for oil

August 31st 2009 11:17
...in Brazil.

From the WSJ:

The U.S. is going to lend billions of dollars to Brazil's state-owned oil company, Petrobras, to finance exploration of the huge offshore discovery in Brazil's Tupi oil field in the Santos Basin near Rio de Janeiro. Brazil's planning minister confirmed that White House National Security Adviser James Jones met this month with Brazilian officials to talk about the loan.

Golly, wouldn't it be great if we had oil off our own shores that we could access and use to help reduce our dependence on foreign oil. Then, Obama could support that instead of sending our money to Brazil. It would create jobs for Americans and provide much-needed funds for the states where the drilling took place. Oh, wait, you're telling that there IS oil off our own shores? And, despite his support for drilling in Brazil, he refuses to support drilling here in the US?

Wait, he is still the president of OUR country, right? Or did we trade him to Brazil for Gisele Bundchen and a couple of truckloads of coffee beans?

It's supposedly "environmentally unsafe" for us to drill off our shores, but magically "safe" for other countries to do. Like nuclear energy and clean coal, B.O. (B.S.) won't allow us to use anything that actually works. His plan is to completely break us so he can create whatever he wants from the ruins. All those who were dumb enough to vote for him will have plenty of time to regret it.

Yesterday, the Boston Globe started calling for those windfarms to be built offshore in Nantucket. Despite his cries for the use of alternative energy, Ted Kennedy successfully kept windfarms from being built near his compound for years. The Boston Globe waited about 24 hours after he was buried to start calling for the policy to change.

Some of the commenters were furious about it. Of course, it's hard to understand the mentality of folks who would send someone like Ted Kennedy to Washington again and again and again after what happened at Chappaquiddick. A liberal state supporting a liberal Senator is one thing, but supporting someone who did that is just unfathomable to me.
