Obama and ethics rules

Promising "a new era of openness in our country," President Barack Obama signed several executive orders Wednesday relating to ethics guidelines for staff members of his administration.

I'm always in favor of strengthened ethics rules. However, this announcement was anemic on details. What types of restrictions were put in place? Will the new guidelines be enforced? Is this just a post-inauguration feel-good action or does it have teeth? I'm never confident in our elected officials' willingness to police themselves. They are all too willing to look the other way even when laws or guidelines are violated.

We'll see what happens.

The Political Brief

One of the things he signed was a pay freeze for all White House employees. Didn't he vote for a pay increase in the senate when he was a part time member? Boy, that's ethical, huh?

Round Politics

PopulistConservative, I think most of what the politicians do are feel good measures. I do hope this is something that has true meaning and not just a prop.

Unfortunately, SL and Lester, most of what politicians do is just window dressing. I'll believe this has real teeth when we see the results. That's what I'm waiting for.

I'm afraid the only teeth we'll be seeing from B.O. (B.S.) will be like snake fangs and get us in the rear end. Anything good and positive wil be"above his paygrade."
