No Bush, no Clinton, no mas

December 23rd 2006 22:38
I saw in the news this week that Jeb Bush (governor of Florida, son of Bush 41, and brother of Bush 43), will not be running for president anytime in the future. According to Reuters:

"No tengo futuro (I have no future)," Jeb Bush told Spanish-language reporters in Miami, when asked about any possible political ambitions after he steps down next month.

I don't know the reasons behind this decision, but it can't help that his brother's current presidential approval ratings are bottom-of-the-barrel low and have been for a while. I just don't think the country is or ever again will be in the mood for another Bush to be president. And that also applies to any other future Bush sons, nephews, or nieces who may have presidential ambitions. No offense, but you guys may as well go work on Wall Street. Or wash you career-minded hands under the family oil derricks. Your bridge to presidential politics has been irreparably burned. If you really do have a hankering for politics, maybe you could serve on a city council. You could always paint your house white if it makes you feel better, but the White House is off limits.

As far as Jeb's decision, I am pleased. It's not that I have anything against Jeb Bush. He seems nice enough. And, by most accounts, he's considered to be a capable and popular governor. It's just that the country is ready to move on. I applaud Jeb Bush for recognizing that and making his aspirations (or lack thereof) known early and clearly.

Now for the Clintons. As everyone knows, Bill Clinton was equally as polarizing as Bush 41, if not moreso. I couldn't stand having him as my President. I felt that he brought dishonor and disgrace to the office of the Presidency. I won't go into the details because they've been spelled out ad nauseum, but it is public knowledge that the mention of his name drives most conservatives crazy. And now Hillary apparently wants to run for President. This will be a huge problem for the country. After 16 polarizing years of Bill and George, we need someone who can bring the country together. Hillary is not that person. She will only give us four or eight more polarized years. Everyone knows this -- even the Democrats. I'm hoping that she will truly do something good for the country and opt not to run. Sadly, I don't think that will happen. Her ambition and hunger for power are too strong.

And do you realize that if Hillary gets elected for two terms, we will have had 28 straight years of Bushes and Clintons in the White House? FOR THE LOVE OF PETE, PEOPLE -- THERE ARE MORE THAN TWO FAMILIES IN THIS COUNTRY WHO CAN BE PRESIDENT!

So here's my holiday wish: I wish for the US electorate to decide that we, as a country, should never again have a Bush or a Clinton reside in the big White House on the Hill. It's time -- actually, it's way past time -- to move on. If we can declare the White House a Bush- and Clinton-free zone, I really do think we have a shot at that most cherished holiday wish: On Earth peace, good will toward men.
