Maine (R) post-mortem
February 5th 2008 01:16
Maine held its Republican caucus this past weekend. There was no awarding of delegates -- that will happen at a later date:
Romney overwhelmingly won the caucus. By the latest tallies, he had 52% of the votes. McCain had 21% and Ron Paul had 18%. By all accounts, it was a pretty decisive showing for Romney.
The caucus itself, as previously noted, didn't actually result in delegates (not yet, at least). Therefore, the win was pretty hollow. However, the fact that Romney won and that he won by such a large margin could signify that the GOP race is not yet over. The MSM seems eager to anoint McCain as the inevitable GOP victor, but a lot of votes still have to be made and counted. The next few days will be telling.
Up next: Super Duper Tuesday (or Super Tuesday or Tsunami Tuesday or Giga Tuesday) on February 5th.
Maine Republicans taking part in the state's presidential caucuses this weekend will give the winner a political boost -- and nothing else.
No delegates will be awarded through the caucus gatherings, which began yesterday and continue today and tomorrow.
