Let them fight

Israel and Hamas are fighting again. What a shocker, right? As usual, there is wall-to-wall press coverage and the requisite gnashing of teeth from an endless supply of Middle East pundits. Folks across the world are crying for the US and other intermediaries to intervene. While it's always unfortunate when people die in battles between warring factions, this is my recommendation for the current skirmish:
Let them fight.
These two groups don't like each other. They've been fighting back and forth for ages. They WANT to fight. To this point, they've rejected a truce that was proposed by Egypt, so they aren't ready to stop. Whenever Israel and Hamas fight, the fear is that it will expand into a broader Middle East war. I just don't see that happening this time. None of the other Arab nations are rushing to join in. If you pull these two belligerents apart, they'll just be at each other's throats again before you know it.
So let them fight -- at least until someone cries, "Uncle!" Maybe they'll get it out of their respective systems and we can get a few extra years of peace and quiet this time. I think that's the best solution the rest of the world can hope for.
