Larry Craig (R-ID) is NOT gay
August 30th 2007 10:02
Or so he says.
Craig, a Republican Senator from Idaho, made that claim in a recent press conference addressing his arrest on charges of soliciting sex from another man in a Minneapolis airport restroom. Craig denied he was gay about three or four times during the press conference and he claimed that he did nothing wrong on the day of his arrest. Inexplicably, however, he did plead guilty to a charge of disorderly conduct related to the incident. Why would a conservative Republican, who has a consistent record of voting against pro-gay issues (and who is not gay, not gay, not gay), plead guilty to ANY offense related to an arrest for solicitation? He claimed that he just wanted it to "go away". I'll bet he did. That part I believe.
Frankly, I couldn't care less if he is gay. However, because of these charges, he should have to resign his position as a Senator. He has no credibility if he so blatantly says one thing and does another. Washington seems to have cornered the market on hypocrisy, but if/when hypocrites are exposed, they should be forced from office.
Also, if he is gay or wants to participate in gay acts, then he should just go and be gay. It's not my cup of tea, but to each his own. For pete's sake, though, don't do that kind of thing in a public restroom. That's not a place to congregate or to meet others for sexual trysts. You go in, you do your business, and you leave. It's repulsive for the average person to think that he's walking into some kind of modern-day harem where negotiations for sex are made and where sexual favors are exchanged. Go to your house. Get a hotel room. But don't do those things in a public restroom. Have a little respect. Kids go in there. They shouldn't be exposed to or even in remote proximity to such lewd acts.
I once heard that you should never trust a man with two first names. I never thought much of it until now, but after the exploits of Larry Craig (who is NOT gay -- or so he says), I have to admit that there may be something to it.
