Good riddance to bad rubbish (Part 2)

In a recent post, I stated that I was not sorry to see Ted Stevens (R-AK) lose in his re-election bid. He was an embarrassment to the state of Alaska. Yesterday, William Jefferson (D-LA), another corrupt politician, was given the boot by the voters:
If you'll recall, Jefferson was the congressman who gave new meaning to the term "cold, hard cash":
Personally, I'm thrilled that the voters of Louisiana's 2nd congressional district voted Jefferson out of office. That was a heavily Democratic district, but they rose above partisan politics and rejected corruption. They should have done this in the 2006 election, but I'm glad they finally saw the light and got rid of their shameless representative.
Stevens and Jefferson both abused their power and betrayed their constituents. Now, they're both gone. Hopefully, this will send a signal to other Senators and Congressmen that the voters are paying attention and that we expect honesty and integrity from our elected officials. That's the least that we should be able to expect from the folks we send to Washington.
Nine-term Democratic Rep. William Jefferson, who has been battling scandals and a federal indictment for the past three years, lost his bid for re-election on Saturday.
Republican challenger Anh "Joseph" Cao, an attorney and community organizer, defeated Jefferson in the 2nd Congressional district race. He will become the first Vietnamese-American elected to Congress.

In 2005, Jefferson's private homes in Washington and New Orleans were raided, and FBI agents say they found $90,000 in cash stashed in one of his freezers.
Officials say the money was part of a payment in marked bills from an FBI informant in a transaction captured on videotape.
