Christie, Palin not running
October 6th 2011 04:21
In the last couple of days, we learned that neither Chris Christie nor Sarah Palin will seek the GOP nomination for president. I think it was the right call in both cases.
Chris Christie has become a GOP favorite because of his no-holds-barred, plain-spoken brashness in defending his positions. I think he could make a solid run for the presidency someday, but this was not his time. He was just elected as governor of NJ and it would be wrong for him to leave that post so quickly. Also, from what I've heard, he might be a squish on illegal immigration. That's a big problem in this election (as Rick Perry has discovered). In terms of the hype, the media (the LIBERAL media) really was pushing him to run. That gives me pause. If they like him so much, what don't I know about him? Finally, the real money guys in the establishment wing of the GOP really pushed for him to run. Frankly, I'm sick to death of the corporatist wing of the GOP pushing their candidates on the populist wing.
Sarah Palin is a strong conservative and I abhor the unbridled rhetorical hell that the deluded leftists in the media unleashed on her. They truly showed how unhinged and misogynistic they were in their treatment of her. With that being said, I could never envision her as president. She lost almost all credibility in my eyes when she quit as governor of Alaska less than halfway through her first term. On top of that, her ideas for saving the country were never more than bumper-sticker soundbites. Sarah is all about Sarah. That's not what we need in a president.
So, it looks like we have our field. I look forward to finding out more about the candidates in the months ahead. I already have a couple of favorites and some I REALLY don't care for. It's still early, though.

The Political Brief
I hope the field is set. We need time to know the candidates and how they perform under pressure. Unlike B.O. (B.S.) who wasn't asked to prove anything, Republican candidates get colonoscopies via the media. Knowing what the President faces (Republican presidents, anyway) makes it important take the time to find out what each candidate is made of, before election day.
