China and US Treasuries

December 20th 2009 01:07
From the Shanghai Daily:

IT is getting harder for governments to buy United States Treasuries because the US's shrinking current-account gap is reducing supply of dollars overseas, a Chinese central bank official said yesterday.

And there's this:

In a discussion on the global role of the dollar, Zhu told an academic audience that it was inevitable that the dollar would continue to fall in value because Washington continued to issue more Treasuries to finance its deficit spending.

And finally:

"The world does not have so much money to buy more US Treasuries."

Do you hear that, Washington? Your irresponsible spending is on the verge of causing some catastrophic consequences for our country. If we can't issue treasuries to finance our profligate spending, we'll soon be left with one option: Firing up the printers and flooding the country with greenbacks. At that point, we'll just be a hop, skip, and a jump away from becoming a third-rate banana republic.

STOP SPENDING MONEY WE DON'T HAVE!

Good grief, we need to elect a CPA as president in 2012.

This is what the liberals want, PopCon. They want us to be a banana republic. A communist banana republic. At this rate, they'll get their way.

The GOP did the same thing, SL, unfortunately. That's part of the reason they're out of power now. Of course, the Democrats have turned wasteful spending into an art form. Seriously, we need a CPA with broad management experience to run the country. That'd be much better than a community organizer with no leadership skills and an unjustified, overblown ego or a faux cowboy who started businesses using his rich Daddy's money and ran them into the ground. We need competency more than ever at this point.

Lets hope we find one before the next election, PopCon. Hopefully we'll be able to choose wisely in the future, now that we've seen what foolishness does.

I know the republicans made some bad choices, but at this point they can't be compared to the democrats, which have taken spending to another level.

At this point in time the democrats are in a league of it's own, Billions was the word when republicans were in charge, now trillions seem to flow of the tongue as if it was greased with butter.

What we need is a president, and congress that actually think before they speak and vote.

No doubt, Lester. The GOP spent money frivolously, but the Dems are kings at wasteful spending. Then again, I expect that from Democrats. They believe in growing government and spending tax dollars on any pet project they can find. Republicans are supposed to be the party of fiscal discipline. If they had been wiser, more restrained, and more judicious, they would've never put the country in a position where Democrats can demolish it.

Both parties are loathsome.
