Campaign finance hypocrisy
June 20th 2008 23:15
Barack Obama has reneged on a previous commitment by opting out of public financing for the general election. Obama had previously pledged to accept public financing if his GOP foe did the same. McCain said he would accept public financing, but Obama has apparently changed his mind.
This is shameful behavior from Obama. Personally, I admired his stance on public financing. He spoke a great deal about the corrupting influence of money in privately-funded campaigns and how public financing would blunt that influence. I agree entirely with that view. However, Obama found out that he was able to raise a fortune through private donations (from both small AND large donors). As a result, he realized how much money he would miss out on if he didn't opt out and he completely flipped on the issue. It's a case of utter hypocrisy. Obama claims to be a new type of candidate, but he is just like all the rest. He will talk a good game and say the right thing, but he's just another sellout when push comes to shove. If he was REALLY concerned about the influence of privately financed elections, he would've stuck to his commitment. If he was REALLY a man of his word, he would've taken public financing as he said he would. Sadly, it appears that Barack Obama is just another sleazy politician who will say or do whatever it takes to get elected.
I can't say I'm all that surprised, but I am disappointed.

Round Politics
His people sure made a big Goof, by excluding the Muslim ladies because of their head scarves. What were they thinking? I think he doesn't want to be associated with Muslims in anyway right now, bad for his I am a Christian image.

Angry Electorate
I doubt this will cost Obama the election by itself. In fact, it will probably help him. Any negative attention he gets for lying will be more than offset by the extra $$ he raises. Still, if he keeps on offending certain groups of people (like those who hold him to his word or like those Muslim women), it could come back to haunt him.
